The History of the Korean Language
The history of writing in Korea began with Chinese characters, Hanja, brought by Buddhism. Writing changed after King Sejong created Hangul in the 15th Century to improve literacy.
Hangul aimed to simplify writing, but aristocrats resisted its use. It was labeled "Morning letter" because it could be learned quickly, yet it became widespread, enhancing literacy.
Official documents remained in Hanja for a while, but now, Hangul is the foundation of daily communication in both North and South Korea, significantly used worldwide.
